Thought you might want to check out one of our earlier flight videos, specifically the point where the balloon popped…
Flight two took place on March 17th.
The wind picked up while preparations were underway so at the time of launch the conditions for ground handling had become almost impossible.
We decided though to give it a try and paid the price.
The payload hit the ground on takeoff, damaging the scale model of the EVE Pod and wrapping it around the camera pole.
The Samsung Galaxy Note also got dislodged and although it streamed live video during the whole flight it only streamed images of the inside of its protective box.
Furthermore the two of the three GoPro cameras stopped working during the flight most likely due to battery failure from the freezing cold at high altitude combined with our (perhaps over-enthusiastic) test consisting of leaving them in the freezer for extensive periods of time prior to launch.
The problem was at least solved in flight three.
The flight was a success thought when it came to the prediction of its flight path as it was almost spot on and we got some cool pictures of the balloon bursting.
Valuable lessons were learned from this and fixed before flight three.
